Athens Free Walking Tour

Yesterday we went on a free walking tour around the city with a historian. We visited many of the places we had already seen, but this time we were able to get some history about each place. Sadly, many of the landmarks don’t have signs in English, so before our tour we could only admire the place and Google it later. We started the tour with the changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

There are knives in those pom poms and nails in the bottom of their shoes!

Then we walked through the National Garden and saw the Panathenaic Stadium.

Made completely out of marble!

After, we walked to Zappeion and Temple of Olympian Zeus.

Last, we walked through Plaka, a picturesque, tourist section, and up to the base of the Acropolis. It gave us a beautiful view of the city and Mount Lycabettus.
